History of Berdyansk Bread Factory

The heritage of Berdyansk Bread Factory dates back to 1925 when it was formed from private bakeries united under the cooperative bakery, with a combined output ranging from 355 to 524 kilograms of bread per month. Until 1941, the factory operated with minimal mechanization, relying on manual baking in brick ovens. Following the liberation of Berdyansk from German occupation, the operations of the bread factory were reinstated through the decision of the Berdyansk City Council No. 4 on September 18, 1943.

In 1959, the bread factory integrated a macaroni production facility, subsequently adopting the name «Bread Combine». By 1965, a new Bread Combine commenced operations, featuring a comprehensive bread plant with a daily production capacity of 65 tons along with a pastry and confectionery section producing 5 tons of buns and 500 kilograms of confectionery products.

Presently, the Limited Liability Company, “Berdyansk Bread Combine,” has evolved into a modern, highly mechanized enterprise with a peak capacity of 59 tons per day, furnished with state-of-the-art equipment, and employing both traditional and innovative production methods. Leveraging both the sponge and dough method and employing liquid yeast to enrich the flavors and aromas, the enterprise crafts 29 types of bread, 31 types of buns, and 5 types of confectionery. Its array of bakery products includes croissants, batons, enriched buns, and rolls. The products are supplied to Berdyansk, the surrounding district, and distributed throughout the Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions, including provisions to military units, children’s sanatoriums, schools, and medical institutions. Collaborations with retail chains such as “ATB-Market” LLC, “Foodcom” LLC, “Silpo-Food,” and “Trash” are also central to its operations.

In 2010, the “Chornomorsky” bread achieved victory at the 15th International Specialized Exhibition “Bread-2010.” Furthermore, the enterprise secured top honors in the International Economic Rating “The League of the Best,” clinching first place among Ukrainian enterprises in the category “Production of bread and bakery products.” Similarly, it was bestowed the distinction of “Enterprise of the Year 2010.” In 2011, the enterprise was lauded with a second-degree diploma for the “Azovsky Hlibodar» bread in the All-Ukrainian Competition “100 Best Products of Ukraine” at the regional level. The company has implemented and operates a food safety management system based on the HACCP concept, complying with the standards of ISO 22000, ensuring the controlled monitoring of the entire technological process through a production control laboratory with confirmed technical competence. Employing 194 workers, the enterprise provides suitable working conditions, facilities, and social protections in line with contemporary industrial norms.
